Inventory locations

We need to be able to deactivate a inventory location when that location no longer exists. This will keep people from mistakenly choosing the location.

Sometimes the name of a location will change. We need to be able to change the name of a inventory location when this happens.

If the same inventory location gets created twice then we need a way to merge the two together & it work the same way as merging two accounts together.

Has this feature been implemented in 10.6? If not, is it on the horizon?

Our Inventory locations are getting pretty messy since we can't rename or merge them. When a location name change is needed, we are creating a new location and then transferring current stock and then inactivating the old location. This can be misleading since the inventory often didn't really move anyplace--we just needed to rename the location.

I understand this field affects many tables so even if it was a utility, it would be greatly appreciated.

Even if it has been used? Last time i tried, i was not able (even after moving all equipment from it.

If an inventory location has been used, you will NOT be able to delete or edit the location name. Even after you move all the inventory from this location, there will still be entries tied to transfers and the movement log pertaining to this location so it must remain in the database.

The ability to set these locations to inactive so no one can use them has been submitted as a feature request.

Has the issue of the deactivating an obsolete inventory location been addressed? I see many requests over the past few years for the ability to either delete or at least deactivate and hide from lists the inventory locations that are not in use. We have many old locations that are not in use anymore, such as vehicles, and it would be nice to clean up the list.

I agree 100% - we have moved WH locations and changed ownership on vehicles and have about 10 WH locations that are no longer relevant. It would be very nice to be able to deactivate and have it removed from the list, much like with past employees. Same with time log reasons. We have time log reasons that are no longer needed that we cannot remove from the list.

We have a script that at least let's us rename the used locations...we just give it a ZZZ in front, so at least they drop to the bottom. Not perfect, but a small step. I would be more than happy to share it - just not sure the best way to go about doing that. Any suggestions and I am game.

One usability hint - don't name your truck inventory locations with the Tech's name. Instead name them TRK1, TRK2, etc. When you replace a truck, the new truck carries the same name as the old.
